Morocco Highlights: Marrakech, Sahara Desert, Fes

Embark on an unforgettable 8-day journey from Marrakech to the Sahara Desert and onward to Fes, exploring Morocco’s imperial cities, majestic mountains, ancient kasbahs, and golden dunes. An immersive adventure blending culture, history, and breathtaking landscapes.

Day 1 | Arrival in Marrakech: Airport Transfer & Free Time

Upon arrival at Marrakech Menara Airport, you’ll be greeted by your driver and transferred to your riad.

After checking into your riad, enjoy some free time to visit the Yves Saint Laurent Museum and the Jardin Majorelle, the vibrant garden restored by the designer, or take a leisurely stroll through Marrakech’s lively streets, soaking in the colors, sounds, and energy of the Red City.

Day 2 | Marrakech Guided Tour

After breakfast, meet your certified local guide for a half-day exploration of Marrakech’s rich history and culture. Highlights include the stunning Bahia Palace, the historic Madrasa Ben Youssef, the iconic Koutoubia Minaret, the bustling souks, the famous Jemaa el-Fnaa Square.

Following the tour, enjoy the rest of your day at leisure. Explore more of the medina, unwind at a rooftop café, or indulge in a traditional hammam experience.

Day 3 | Marrakech » Atlas Mountains » Ait Ben Haddou » Ouarzazate » Dades Gorge

After breakfast, begin a scenic drive across the Atlas Mountains via Tizi n’Tichka (2,260m), passing Berber villages, terraced farms, and mountain landscapes perfect for photos.

Visit the UNESCO-listed Ait Ben Haddou, a fortified ksar famous for its architecture and appearances in Gladiator and Game of Thrones. After lunch, continue to Ouarzazate,  to visit the Atlas Film Studios and explore Taourirt Kasbah, a well-preserved example of traditional Berber architecture.

Then drive through the Rose Valley and the town of Kalaat M’Gouna, known for rose cultivation, before reaching Dades Gorge
Check into your hotel and unwind amid the area’s dramatic rock formations and tranquil scenery.

Day 4 | Dades Valley » Todra Gorge » Merzouga Desert

After breakfast, explore the Dades Valley, known for its “monkey-finger” rock formations and panoramic viewpoints. Continue to the impressive Todra Gorge, where cliffs rise nearly 300 meters high. Enjoy a short walk and visit a local carpet workshop before lunch.

In the afternoon, drive to Merzouga, gateway to the Sahara Desert. Swap your car for a camel trek across the Erg Chebbi dunes, witnessing a magical sunset en route to your camp.

Enjoy a traditional dinner, followed by live Berber music and an evening under the stars.

Day 5 | Merzouga » Ziz Valley » Cedar Forest » Ifrane » Fes

Wake up early to witness the sunrise over the dunes. Then, begin your scenic journey north through some of Morocco’s most striking landscapes. Travel across the Ziz Valley, famous for its palm-filled oases, ancient kasbahs, and terraced farms.

Continue through the Middle Atlas Mountains to the Cedar Forest, home to playful Barbary macaques often seen leaping between the trees. Next, visit Ifrane, a charming alpine town known for its European-style architecture and clean, crisp air.

Finally, arrive in Fes, one of Morocco’s most historic and culturally rich cities. Relax at your hotel and prepare for the following day’s guided exploration of the city’s ancient treasures.

Day 6 | Discover Fes: Historic Wonders & Cultural Sightseeing Tour

After breakfast, set out on a guided tour of Fes, Morocco’s spiritual and cultural heart. As one of the country’s oldest imperial cities, and home to the world’s oldest university, Fes offers a captivating blend of history, craftsmanship, and tradition.

Visit the Royal Palace and the Jewish Quarter (Mellah), home to one of Morocco’s oldest Jewish cemeteries, dating back to 1438. Enter the labyrinthine Fes el-Bali Medina through the Rcif Gate, where you’ll explore the Seffarine Square, the vibrant Chouara Tannery, and the historic Al-Karaouine Mosque and University.

Continue to Al Bou Inania Madrasa and the Nejjarine Museum of Wooden Arts and Crafts. End your walk at the iconic Bab Boujloud (Blue Gate), a perfect spot for photos.

Day 7 | Fes » Marrakech

After breakfast, your driver will provide a smooth and comfortable transfer back to Marrakech, with scenic views along the way. Upon arrival, check in to your accommodation and enjoy the rest of the day at your leisure, reflecting on the incredible journey you’ve experienced across Morocco.

Day 8 | Departure from Marrakech

On your final day, your driver will pick you up from your accommodation and transfer you to Marrakech Menara Airport for your departure.
