Trip Highlights

Day 1 | Arrival in Paro – Drive to Thimphu, Bhutan’s capital

Upon arrival at Paro International Airport, the crisp mountain air and sight of prayer flags welcome you to the Kingdom. After meeting your guide, drive toward Thimphu, stopping to visit the Tachogang Lhakhang bridge. Once in the capital, explore the golden Buddha Dordenma for a panoramic view of the valley. In the evening, join locals for an evening kora at the National Memorial Chorten, a gentle introduction to the spinning prayer wheels of Bhutanese daily life.

Day 2 | Thimphu: Forests & Traditions

Begin your morning with a scenic hike to Cheri Monastery, where the sound of monastic chanting echoes through the pine forest. Upon returning to the city, visit the Centenary Farmers’ Market, a sensory explosion of organic chilies and local incense. The day concludes with a traditional Bhutanese cooking experience, where you will learn to prepare the national dish, Ema Datshi, in an authentic local kitchen.

Day 3 | Thimphu – Dodedrak: Monastic Immersion

Leave the modern world behind as you hike to Dodedrak Monastery, a secluded sanctuary in the mountains. This is a soul-opening opportunity to meet the monks, attend their sacred daily rituals, and share a mindful dinner with the monastic community. You will end the day hoisting prayer flags and preparing for a silent morning meditation, fully stepping into the rhythm of spiritual life.

Day 4 | Thimphu – Gangtey: Into the Glacial Valley

Ascend the Dochula Pass (3,100m) for breathtaking views of the snow-capped Himalayas. Descend into the serene Phobjikha Valley, a wide glacial plain and the winter home of the rare black-necked cranes. Visit the 17th-century Gangtey Monastery, a masterpiece of Bhutanese architecture overlooking the valley floor.

Day 5 | Gangtey – Punakha: The Valley of Happiness

Travel to the lush, subtropical valley of Punakha. Visit Chimi Lhakhang, a temple dedicated to the “Divine Madman,” before exploring the majestic Punakha Dzong. Sitting at the confluence of two rivers, this is widely considered the most beautiful fortress in the country. A late afternoon hike to Khamsum Yulley Namgyal Chorten offers panoramic views of the terraced rice fields below.

Day 6 | Punakha – Paro: Cultural Heartlands

Return to Paro to explore its deep historical roots. Visit Kyichu Lhakhang, one of the oldest temples in Bhutan, and the imposing Rinpung Dzong. To fully immerse yourself in the culture, spend the afternoon dressed in a Gho or Kira (national dress) while strolling through the charming local market.

Day 7 | Paro – Bumdrak Trek: Sleeping Above the Clouds

Embark on the “Trek of a Thousand Angels.” This pilgrimage route takes you to high-altitude ridges with sweeping views. Spend the night at Bumdrak Camp, a luxury wilderness experience where you will participate in a cleansing ritual led by a Buddhist master, sleeping in comfort high above the clouds.

Day 8 | Bumdrak Trek: Tiger’s Nest – Paro

Descend from the heights toward the legendary Tiger’s Nest Monastery. Clinging to a sheer cliff 900 meters above the valley floor, this iconic landmark is the pinnacle of Bhutanese spirituality. After the descent, return to Paro for a well-deserved evening of rest.

Day 9 | Paro: Reflection & Restoration

A final day dedicated to mindfulness. Soothe your muscles in a traditional hot stone bath, where river stones are heated by fire to release minerals into the water. Seek guidance for the future with a Bhutanese astrologer at a local temple, reflecting on the journey before your departure.

Day 10 | Departure

Bid farewell to the Land of the Thunder Dragon as you are transferred to the airport for your onward journey.
